Problem: A grain unloading terminal was using a heavy cast-iron return roller assembly. The castings were heavy for maintenance workers to carry, and replacement costs were expensive.
Solution: With the help of our manufacturers’ engineering staff, we designed and built a prototype that could be injection molded due to the high usage of rollers per year. The roller we developed is static dissipative, modular, lightweight, and less expensive. The customer was concerned with the wear life of the composite material, however, after months of testing, the roller outperformed their expectations.
